Once a major transportation corridor between Jinshan and Tianmu, as you walk up you will see the waterworks from the Japanese Era, the Tianmu Historial Trail (aka Tianmu Old Trail or Tianmu Water Pipe Trail) is now a popular hiking route in Taipei. Starting in Tianmu, the trail takes you past the Cuifeng Waterfall.

We recommend their Set menus!

Did you know? "Bamboo Lake" (竹子湖, Zhúzǐhú) refers to a valley nestled between Datun, Qixing, and Xiaoguanyin Mountains in Yangmingshan. It was originally a volcanic landslide dam lake, formed roughly 350,000 years ago. Over time, natural erosion and drainage caused the “lake” to dry out, leaving behind fertile, well-drained farmland. It’s now famous not for open water—but for its lush calla lily and hydrangea fields, especially during spring time.

ree

Another nice area to explore in Yangminshan is: Qingtiangang Grassland - Grassy, hilly lava plateau, home to wild buffalo & a popular destination for a family walk.

ree

If you are feeling more adventurous and want to do a longer hiking trail in Yangminshan, we recommend to check out: 📍 Lengshuikeng

Dadaocheng: Dihua Old Street & Dadaocheng Wharf Daqiaotou / Beimen MRT

Dadaocheng is one of Taipei’s oldest and most culturally rich neighborhoods, once a bustling trade hub during the Qing Dynasty, especially for tea exports. In the late 1800s, it became the heart of Taipei’s tea, textile, and shipping industries, attracting merchants from China, Japan, and the West. It was also a center for Taiwan’s early modern movements, including cultural, educational, and political reform. Today, its preserved shophouses, old tea warehouses, and baroque façades tell stories of Taipei's vibrant past.

ree

If you are driving, we recommend to park here. Walk towards the Dadaocheng Visitor Center

Inside the visitor center, you can get some information about the area, but also it's a nice little place where you can try out some heongsam and ancient costume (2nd Floor). Various retro clothing and accessories are provided on site to allow tourists to experience the nostalgic ambience of Dadaocheng.

ree

We also recommend visiting the Yong Le Market, we bought some Mochis that were so delicious and continued our walk to Dihua Old Street.

After eating and walking along Dihua Old Street, you can explore the Dadaocheng Wharf Plaza area. We went during the day on a weekday and it was really quiet, no stalls open yet, but if you go there on weekends or evening times, it should be a pretty lively place.

The kids (and adults) learned so much, especially from the room with all the stamps from different countries and periods of time!

☔️ 📝 Suho Paper Museum and Miniatures Museum near Songjiang Nanjing MRT

As the name suggests, the first museum focuses on Paper making traditions. It's a three floors small museum that offers paper-making DIY activity on their rooftop. The staff kindly explained all the participants, and translated to English for those who didn't speak Mandarin. It's about 20minutes experience and 20minutes wait time (for the paper to dry completely).

We did walk-in on a weekday and it was fine, but we would highly recommend booking in advance to reduce waiting times.

We have also started the trail from this other side, where there is a kids playground: Yongchun Trail

Our kids are really into bugs, and many of their nature trail group classes took place here. So if your kids are also nature lovers, they will for sure love the hike!
