1.2 🚗Yangminshan: Leisure Farm, Qintiangang grassland, Zhuzhihu

Beitou MRT + 40 min bus ride (Recommend to drive or Uber there)

This a one of our favorite combination for a half a day outing in Yangminshan. You will need a car to get there, and contact the Leisure farm in advance via their  Facebook page. We highly recommend visiting as the owners are simply the nicest! They are really passionate about Nature appreciation, Ecological and Farming Education, etc.

Stonehouse 63 Restaurant doesn't only offer great food, but it's a wonderful place to spend some quality time with loved ones and the owner is very friendly, highly recommend!

Another nice area to explore in Yangminshan is: Qingtiangang Grassland - Grassy, hilly lava plateau, home to wild buffalo & a popular destination for a family walk.

If you are feeling more adventurous and want to do a longer hiking trail in Yangminshan, we recommend to check out: 📍 Lengshuikeng

1.3 ☔️National Taiwan Science Education Center (NTSEC), Astronomical Museum, Children's Amusement Park

Shilin MRT + 12 min bus ride or 16 min walk

We highly recommend pairing Science Museum / Astronomical Museum / the Amusement Park for a half day outing, they are all in walking distance. But if you enjoy a slower pace, consider coming back to this area on different days. Behind the two museums, you’ll also find a big park with a really fun playground (Meilun Park), perfect for a break outdoors.

For lunch, an early dinner, or just coffee, stop by the Science Museum’s food court on B1 Floor.

Jiannan Rd MRT + 17 Mins walk or Uber

Riverside parks are not easily accessible by public transport, you might need to drive or get there by taxi/Uber.

Taipei's riverside areas are perfect for spending time outdoors and there are many different sections you can visit. Many families go there on weekends to cycle along the river, as there are multiple locations for renting bikes. Plus, you get fantastic views of Taipei 101, the Yuanshan Grand Hotel, etc.

At Dajia, you can rent bikes at 📍 Dajia Riverside Bike Rental

Or you can also go to 📍 Guanshan Riverside Bike Rental.

During summer it can get too hot to spend the whole day by the river, we recommend planning to get there after 3pm. Good news is there's a water splash area in summer at Dajia Riverside Park. Younger kids also love the huge sand pit. Make sure to bring or buy some very cold drinks to stay hydrated.

On the other side of the river you will find: 📍 Meiti Park Playground    📍 Meiti Riverside Bike Rental

Neihu is considered more a residential / work district that not many venture to. But if you are looking for a family friendly area that includes a hiking trail, park, swimming pool, all in the same place. This Neihu area might just be the right place!

If weather permits, and you are the outdoorsy type of family, this hiking trail is great! On google map it says this trail usually takes around 21 minutes... but with kids, and maybe including some resting stops, it's around 35-40 minutes hike: Hiking Trail Map.

First go to: Neihu MRT (Exit 1).

🥾 Prepare some water, sunscreen, mosquitoes repellent, hats, etc. and start the trail here: Bihu Trail Entrance.

The trail ends in the beautiful area of Neihu Dagouxi, where you will see many locals with their kids playing in the grass area or in the little creek.

☕️ After hiking, you could try some of the small and cute coffee shops in the areaor grab lunch here: Triple Cafe or at 饗趣31 Italian Restaurant.

🚆 Dahu MRT is just right next to the park, and there's also Underground Parking.

2.4 🚗 Baishihu Bridge and Neihu Strawberries Season

Neihu MRT + 7 min bus ride

Going up the mountain behind Neihu Station to the Baishihu area is certainly one our all time favorite outing. Have some nature walk time to Lover's Pond, and then grab lunch at our favorite place: Mingguwu Bakery & Restaurant.

We highly recommend their Dohua 豆花 and 蔥抓餅 spring onion pancakes.

They also bake a variety of breads, artisan jams, vinegars, make sure to get some to try at home!

Sometimes we also go for coffee at: Farmhouse Cafe.

During strawberry season in Neihu (January to February), this is the place to eat things made with strawberries, even "strawberry pizza" Strawberry Garden Caffe and you can also pick strawberries or learn to make jam at these places: Neihu Strawberry Farm, Donglin Strawberry Farm.

Inside the visitor center, you can get some information about the area, but also it's a nice little place where you can try out some cheongsam and other costumes (2nd Floor). Retro clothing and accessories are provided on site to allow tourists to experience the nostalgic ambience of Dadaocheng.

We also recommend visiting the Yong Le Market, we bought some Mochis that were so delicious and continued our walk to Dihua Old Street.

The kids (and adults) learned so much, especially from the room with all the stamps from different countries and periods of time!

It's about 20minutes experience and 20minutes wait time (for the paper to dry completely).

We did walk-in on a weekday and it was fine, but we would highly recommend booking in advance to reduce waiting times.

Handmade Paper Making Workshop

  1. On-Site Registration: Limited spots available, so it’s recommended to purchase tickets at least 30 minutes in advance.
